The Rwanda Space Agency (RSA), established in 2020, is focused on developing Rwanda's space sector to support the country's socio-economic development. Its mission involves coordinating all space-related activities within Rwanda, fostering a competitive space ecosystem, and driving innovation in space technology. The agency collaborates with local and international partners to leverage space-based technologies for critical sectors like agriculture, disaster management, biodiversity, and climate monitoring. One of RSA’s key achievements is the deployment of RWASAT-1, Rwanda’s first satellite, launched in 2019 in partnershipwith the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). RWASAT-1’s mission is to monitor agriculture, coastal areas, forests, and biodiversity, providing critical data to improve resource management and environmental sustainability in Rwanda.
